Nepal is a very beautiful country that attracts hundreds and thousands of Tourists a every year. People from a different country visit Nepal for different purposes like trekking, tours, hiking, adventure, Meditation, etc. However, there are some important limitations and rules you must understand.
The tourist visa of Nepal is issued by the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu and Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad. This visa is designed for foreign travellers visiting Nepal for tourism, sightseeing, short visits or personal travel purposes.
Foreign Nationals Planning to visit Nepal may apply for the appropriate visa in advance through Nepalese Embassies or Consulates in their home country, depending on the purpose of travel. Below are the main Visa Categories issued before arrival:
A tourist visa is issued to travellers visiting Nepal for holidays, sightseeing, trekking, cultural tours, yoga retreats, or short personal visits. The visa does not permit employment or income-generating activities within Nepal.
A business visa is granted to foreign investors, entrepreneurs, or representatives of foreign companies intending to conduct business activities in Nepal. Supporting documents and government recommendations are required.
A Non-Tourist visa is issued to individuals visiting Nepal for a specific purpose, such as Volunteering, studying, research, or working with international organizations or Non-Government Organizations, based on official approvals.
A working visa is provided to foreign nationals employed by a Nepalese organisation or Company. This visa requires a valid work permit and formal approval from the Department of Immigration and other concerned authorities.
A student visa is issued to international student enrolled in a recognized educational institution in Nepal. Admission Confirmation and related documents are mandatory.
A Residential visa may be issued to Foreign nationals eligible under Nepal's Immigration Laws, such as retirees, long-term residents, or individuals with special government approval.
According to the Immigration Rules of the Government of Nepal, nationals of certain countries are not eligible for a visa on arrival. Travellers from different countries must obtain a Nepal visa in advance from the nearest Nepalese Embassy or Consulate before travelling to Nepal.
As per current immigration guidelines, citizens of the following countries are required to acquire a visa before arrival in Nepal.
Note: Holders of refugee travel documents or emergency passports may also be required to obtain a visa in advance.
Visa regulations required documents, and eligibility criteria may vary based on nationality and the purpose of travel. Travellers are advised to apply for the correct visa category before arrival to ensure compliance with Nepal’s Immigration rules.

According to reciprocal visa waiver agreements between the Government of Nepal and corresponding foreign governments, official passport holders from the following countries do not require an entry visa to enter Nepal for the given term.
Visas of all kinds, including ‘Gratis’, issued at the Airport are Tourist Visas. Contact Department of Immigration for extending your visa or changing the category of your visa. Tourist Visa extension can be done from Immigration Office, Pokhara too. Non tourist visa extension can be done only at the Department of Immigration (if eligible) for a period of maximum one year (except business visa).
