15 Days Everest Base Camp Trek

The Everest Base Camp Route goes to a region that has drawn renowned personalities such as George Mallory, Sir Edmund Hillary, and Tenzing Norgay since the 1920s. Explore the region's vast diversity, stunning natural landscapes, and distinct Sherpa culture. Explore the picturesque monasteries and museums along the walking track. Join a group of like-minded travelers who enjoy the simple pleasures of prayer wheels, prayer flags, and swinging bridges during the day. In the evening, converse with your newfound acquaintances by the dining room fireplace. On the Everest Base Camp Trekking route, legendary Kala Patthar (5545m) offers stunning views of the Everest region, while Namche Bazaar captivates you with its history, culture, and diversity.

The Everest Base Camp Trek begins in Kathmandu, a vibrant city full of vitality. It then takes you through the Everest region before returning to Kathmandu. You begin your trek with a short and spectacular flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, followed by a diverse trail. Walking through interesting communities such as Lukla, Phakding, Benkar, Monjo, Jorsale, and others. Many monasteries, chortens, and prayer wheels can be found along the road. You'll cross suspension bridges decorated with prayer flags. View the wildlife and scenery of Sagarmatha National Park. Trek along the torrential Dudh Koshi River (the Milky River) until you reach the bustling Namche Bazaar. Namche is a true Himalayan town with intriguing stores, delicious food, breathtaking scenery, and culture. Namche Bazaar is also a traditional market hub that leads to the ancient monasteries of Tengboche and Dingboche.

After acclimatizing at a lower altitude, you'll go to the stunning Gorak Shep and the famed Kala Patthar for a breathtaking panorama of the Himalayas. Kala Patthar is recognized for its stunning views of shining peaks such as Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lhotse, and Mt. Changtse. You will be able to witness not only the breathtaking mountains, but also the spectacular Khumbu Glacier, the famous Khumbu Icefall, glacial rivers, and avalanche trails. When you return from the high Himalayas, you will learn about the Sherpa community's true lifestyle and gain an insider's perspective on their rich cultural history. Trekking ends in Lukla before returning to Kathmandu, Nepal's medieval capital.

Everest Base Camp can be trekked at any time of year, but the finest months are March to May and September to December. Join Himalayan Yoga And Excursion on this hike to ensure you get the most out of your experience. With good preparation on your part and carefully planned itineraries, and the trekkers' comfort and safety as our top priority, this journey will undoubtedly leave many memorable memories. Weather Update, Flight Delay Issue & Festival Notice: Due to changeable Himalayan weather conditions, flights between Kathmandu and Lukla may be delayed or cancelled. We recommend adding 1-2 extra buffer days to your trip to ensure a seamless schedule. Heavy rains during the monsoon season (June-August) may have an influence on road and flight conditions, whilst snow and low temperatures in the winter (December-February) may have an impact on hiking routes. Furthermore, during significant Nepali festivals like as Dashain and Tihar, some services and lodging options may be limited. During the holidays, it is strongly advised to book in advance. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, so please plan ahead of time and stay up to date on local weather and travel notices.

ITINERARY

Expand All
Welcome to Kathmandu, a city brimming with vibrant markets, bustling streets, colorful temples, and majestic pagodas. Our guide will meet you at the airport and transport you to our hotel. The rest of the day will be spent getting to know the shopping districts near your hotel and stocking up on equipment. In the evening, one of our team members will provide you with a quick introduction and crucial information about the walk. No meals.
Your sightseeing tour begins around 8.30 a.m., following a hearty breakfast, and brings you to several cultural landmarks and historical sites in the Kathmandu Valley. A private vehicle and guide will lead the route!
After an early morning start, our guide will pick you up at the hotel and take you to Kathmandu's domestic airport. The trip from Kathmandu to Lukla takes around 35 minutes, giving you enough time to enjoy the breathtaking vistas of the Himalayas. After arrival at Tenzing-Hilary airport, you will be greeted by your porter, who will carry your bags. You then begin your adventure with a very easy trek via a Kani (ceremonial gatehouse) before descending and ascending above Kyangma hamlet, which has a huge gompa (monastery) and school. We then proceed to Cheplung hamlet, where the trail winds through a communal forest with views of the Dudh Koshi River. After crossing the suspension bridge, you climb the ridge to Ghat, passing by a school and a complex of Mani walls, Chortens, and prayer wheels. After a short stroll from Ghat, we arrive at Phakding. Overnight in a mountain lodge. Breakfast, lunch and supper are included.
After breakfast, the hike passes multiple suspension bridges across the Dudh Kosi River before continuing through Tok-Tok, Bhenkar, and Monjo to the Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate, where you must purchase a permit. After following the river bed for a few hours and passing the final Hillary suspension bridge, there follows a difficult uphill hike to Namche Bazaar. Namche features a wide range of eateries, a cyber café, pubs, a post office, an ATM, and banks. Breakfast, lunch and supper are included.
This lovely town is great for "acclimatization". Health experts propose that we spend our days exercising rather than sitting idle. From Namche, you can take a short hike to Everest View Resort in Thame, visit Khunde, or relax and explore Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is the primary hub of the Everest (Khumbu) region, with government offices, ATMs, internet cafés, shops, restaurants, a bakery, and a colorful market every Friday evening and Saturday. A short trek of barely a hundred metres will allow us to adequately acclimatize. Our guides will also take us to the Tourist Visitor Center near the Sagarmatha National Park headquarters, where we can see artifacts from the first mountaineers to conquer Everest, learn about Sherpa culture, and experience the diverse plant and animal life of the Everest region. Breakfast, lunch and supper are included.
The walk continues along the quickly flowing glacial waters of the Dudh Kosi, with breathtaking views of the Himalayas (Mt. Everest, Lhoste, Taboche Peak, and Amadablam). Tengboche, at 3,800 meters, is the last destination. Tengboche monastery has incredibly ornate wall hangings, a 20-foot sculpture of numerous Buddha stances and musical instruments, and Lamas' robes. Our party will be escorted to a prayer service, either in the evening or in the morning, depending on how the journey goes that day. Breakfast, lunch and supper are included.
The journey from Tengboche to Dingboche is only a short one, which we will most certainly finish in the afternoon. The final hill into Dingboche is difficult, especially at this high altitude. The trail next leads to the villages of Somare (4020m) and Orsho, both of which offer accomodation. The trail then divides, with the left track leading up to Pheriche before crossing a suspension bridge and climbing steeply to the settlement of Dingboche (4460m), which has many fine guesthouses. Breakfast, lunch and supper are included.
It is advisable to spend another day acclimating before ascending to greater altitudes. One approach is to walk up to Chukkung Valley (4730m) and then to Island Peak (Imja Tes). Above Dingboche is Nagkartshang Gompa (a tough trek of about 2 to 3 hours), or you can go to Pheriche for an afternoon lecture on altitude sickness. The trail to Chhukung departs from Dingboche and leads to Bibr (4570m), flanked by magnificent mountain peaks such as Taboche, Nuptse, Lhotse, the giant flute-shaped pass of Amphu Laptsa Pass, and Ama Dablam. Chukkung has multiple lodges and is the most popular destination for those hiking Island Peak. If trekkers feel more acclimatized, they can climb a grassy slope to the summit of Chukkung Ri (5550m) for a spectacular view of Makalu. Breakfast, lunch and supper are included.
After breakfast, we begin our trek by walking towards Thukla before crossing the steep terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and ascending Chupki Lhara, where we find clusters of stones with prayer flags placed by Sherpas as a memorial to Scott Fischer (American mountaineer), 10-time Everest summiteer Babu Chiri Sherpa (Nepalese Sherpa mountain guide), who died on a mission to climb Mt. Everest. The path then continues to the Khumbu Glacier moraine, where we can see numerous stunning mountain peaks, including Khumbutse, Lingtren, and Mahalangur Himal. We stay overnight in Lobuche. Breakfast, lunch, and supper are included.
We begin our climb to Mt. Everest Base Camp via the enormous Gorak-Shep. Along the way, we come across memorials to Indian army mountaineers. At this point, the path can be tricky, so stick to your guide. The thin air at this high elevation can be taxing. We go over stony dunes, moraine, and streams before arriving at Mt. Everest Base Camp. From Everest Base Camp, you can see some of the world's highest peaks in stark contrast to the dreary surrounds, particularly in the spring. Before us are Khumbuste, Nuptse, and Pumori. We will then return to Gorak Shep. Dinner, breakfast, and lunch are all included.
We begin our trip around 4 a.m., in the pre-dawn darkness and frigid temps (-10 to -14 C). It is typical to have cold breezes at this altitude. To the east, towering peaks such as Khumbutse, Lingtren, and Changtse appear as Everest approaches. Not until we reach Kala Patthar (5550m) can we get a 360-degree up-close and bird's-eye glimpse of Mount Everest. After taking in the panoramic vistas and feverishly clicking cameras, we'll head back to Lobuche and then Pangboche for a decent night's sleep. Breakfast, lunch and supper are included.
From Pangboche, we retrace our travels, first down to the Imja Khola and then up through the rhododendron forest to the Tengboche monastery. For some, this will be an opportunity to witness the nuns' religious ceremonies at Tengboche Monastery. After lunch in Tengboche, we continue our trip across the mountainside, which is covered in beautiful rhododendron and juniper trees. After passing the bridge over the (milky) Dudh Koshi River, our trail continues down the Dudh Koshi Gorge, steeply dropping through the pine forests before arriving at Sansa. While passing through the jungle, we keep a watch out for wildlife such as Himalayan Thar mountain goats, snow leopards, and colorful pheasants. After crossing a Chorten, we arrive to Namche Bazaar army camp, where we spend the night. Breakfast, lunch and supper are included.
This is our final day of trekking before returning to our starting point in Lukla. This is an opportunity to reflect on the unforgettable memories of our group walk as well as our individual accomplishments. A free afternoon allows you to relax and take a hot shower! In the evening, we'll toast with a few drinks and dance. Breakfast, lunch and supper are included.
Following our 14-day trip, we board an early morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. After arriving in Kathmandu, you can rest or shop. This is also a good time to revisit areas you missed when you first arrived in Kathmandu. Our guides will continue to assist you with souvenir purchasing and touring.

GOOD TO KNOW

Trek Difficulty:

The Everest Base Camp Trek is graded as moderate to challenging, involving daily hikes of 5–7 hours through rugged mountain terrain and high altitudes. Previous trekking experience is helpful, but good physical fitness, mental endurance, and proper preparation are more important than experience alone.

Best Time to Trek:

The spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) seasons are considered the best time to trek. These months offer clear skies, pleasant daytime temperatures, and the most stable weather conditions for mountain views and safe trekking.

Altitude & Acclimatization:

The trek reaches a maximum altitude of 5,545 meters at Kala Patthar. Proper acclimatization is built into the itinerary with rest days at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche. Symptoms of altitude sickness can appear above 3,000 meters, so trekkers should ascend gradually, stay hydrated, and avoid alcohol.

Accommodation & Meals:

You’ll stay in local teahouses or mountain lodges, offering twin-sharing rooms and basic amenities. Meals include a variety of Nepali, Indian, and Western dishes such as dal bhat, pasta, soup, and noodles. Hot showers, Wi-Fi, and charging facilities are available in most places for a small fee.

Permits & Documentation:

Two main permits are required: the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit. Both will be arranged by your travel agency before the trek begins. A valid passport and travel insurance covering emergency evacuation are mandatory.

Health, Safety & Communication:

All trekking groups are accompanied by trained guides carrying a first aid kit and experienced in managing altitude-related issues. In case of serious illness, helicopter evacuation can be arranged (insurance required). Wi-Fi and mobile networks are available in most villages but can be unreliable at higher altitudes.
